A Night With Pile

I recently had the pleasure of attending one of Pile’s shows in Troy with a friend of mine, and of course, decided to bring my camera. Two cameras, in fact! Around my neck was my Olympus OM-10 (with flash) and a curious piece that I came across from my family, a Bell & Howell SLR (without flash). The goal of the second camera was to not only run some test rolls through it, but also to practice my low-light shooting without a flash. I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

The lighting on the stage was pretty strong, and paired shooting at 1/8th, the reds reeeally came out strong, to the photos’ benefit. Big thanks to the crowd for allowing me to post up close for most of these shots. The OM-10 produced some decent results as well, considering how much energy was on and off the stage.

There was a particular moment, showed in the last 3 shots here, where the lead guitarist/vocalist of Pile, Rick Maguire, hopped off stage and splayed across the ground while shredding. Everyone circled around him, and I was lucky enough to be right in front of the action, swinging my winding lever and shutter as fast as I could. It’s hard to explain just how I felt in that moment, but with the music blaring in my ear and a golden opportunity in front of me, the closest word I have is simply untouchable. Rick, if you ever stumble across this post, thank you.

NNAMDI

Opening for Pile was NNAMDI, an artist who I was familiar with since I was in high school. It was fantastic meeting him in person, and we chatted a bit before the show. He allowed me to get some pre-show photos outside, and as with Pile, if you come across this Nnamdi, thank you so much for the opportunity.

End of Line.
